SUMMARY:Space Invaders by Eric Garcia
DESCRIPTION:ON VIEW: January 25鈥揊ebruary 27聽\nArt Walk & Reception: Friday\, 4\, 4:30-6:30pm \nSpace Invaders encourages you to rethink familiar stories of space and invasion through the lens of history. Inspired by sci-fi and the classic arcade game\, New Mexico artist Eric J. Garc铆a uses bold graphics\, prints\, projections\, and interactive play to connect aliens and outer space to colonialism\, Western expansion and life today. \n\nON VIEW IN MARIANI GALLERY \nREFUSE by Shelby Shadwell \nJanuary 19鈥揊ebruary 25 | Mariani Gallery \nREFUSE presents large-scale charcoal drawings and oil paintings that turn trash bags\, animal remains\, and emergency blankets into intensely detailed\, almost glowing images. These works may both unsettle and captivate you\, opening space to question what counts as 鈥渓ow鈥 or 鈥渉igh鈥 in art and how beauty is constructed. \n\nON VIEW IN OAK ROOM 聽GALLERY \nPaintings by Allan Bennetts \nFebruary 2鈥揗arch 10 | Oak Room Gallery \nThis exhibition invites you to look again at everyday technologies\, especially once they stop working as intended. Through careful\, slow painting from direct observation\, Allan Bennetts turns these silent\, broken devices into portraits that reveal their strange beauty\, hinting at memories\, consumer culture\, and how closely we live with our gadgets.
