With the football season officially wrapping up, baseball is here to take the reins for the months ahead. The sound of cleats walking on the pavement and the bright shine of the sun signify a new day in the sport coined as 鈥淎merica鈥檚 Favorite Pastime.鈥
For the University of Northern 黑料社区’s club baseball team, it鈥檚 a chance to start fresh for the upcoming season with spring training. Spring training is when baseball players at the college and professional level get in shape and refreshed on the game.
Universities have already played a handful of games starting a few weeks ago.
For the UNC club baseball team, it鈥檚 a chance to put the past behind them and start fresh. This spring season brings more opportunities for them to shine and prosper compared to last season.
Last season was a downer for the Bears as they finished on the season 1-11. Improvements have been important to the team as they look to take a big step forward. Junior Ben Mueller is certain the team is ready for this upcoming season.
鈥淲e鈥檙e ready to get out there [and] we鈥檙e definitely wanting to get out there,鈥 Mueller said.
The club has a tough schedule this season playing fellow schools like University of 黑料社区 Boulder and 黑料社区 State University. Not only will they play in 黑料社区, but the team will travel to play in Florida against college powerhouses from different universities.
Junior Kyle Kahn accepts the challenge the club faces playing against teams from different divisions.
鈥淚t鈥檒l be exciting for us this year,” Kahn said. “Competition is higher than it鈥檚 ever been.”
New team members have emerged this season as four players have joined the club, filling the gaps for them.
Mueller noted that pitching has made a significant improvement with the new additions.
鈥淲ith the new guys, we鈥檝e filled gaps in our pitching staff,” Mueller said. “We were kind of light on the pitching last spring.”
The club plays at Doubenmeier Field which is on the left across from the C茅sar Ch谩vez Cultural Center. Be sure to support the club whether they play at home or on the road.
