Bookshare is an ebook library that makes reading easier. People with reading barriers like dyslexia, blindness, and physical disabilities can read in ways that work for them with a huge collection of titles in audio, audio + highlighted text, braille, and other formats. Bookshare is FREE for all qualified U.S. students and schools.

Log-In to BookShare:

Login and Dashboard Navigation

  • You will receive an email from the DRC with your Bookshare username and password.
  • Go to the Bookshare website and log in using the credentials provided.
  • Once logged in, you鈥檒l arrive at your homepage titled 鈥淢y Bookshare.鈥
  • At the bottom of this page, you鈥檒l see three tabs. Click the middle tab labeled 鈥淎ssigned Books.鈥
  • This is where any books assigned to you will appear. Click on a title to begin accessing your content.
    • You can either download the book or read it directly in your browser.

Download Instructions

If you prefer to download your book:

  1. Choose your preferred format:鈥 (Word, DAISY with images, DAISY text only, Audio, BRF, or EPUB)
  2. Click the Download button.
  3. You will be redirected to a new page. Once the status shows 鈥淎vailable,鈥 click it to begin downloading.
  4. The book will download as a zipped folder.
    • To unzip it, right-click the folder and select 鈥淓xtract All.鈥 Then choose a destination folder to save the files.

Reading in a Web Browser

If you do not wish to download the book, you can click the blue 鈥淩ead Now鈥 button to open the book in the web reader.

In the web reader, you鈥檒l find several tools:

  • Bottom left: Book navigation panel (table of contents)
  • Bottom center: Play and pause button for text-to-speech
  • Bottom right:
    • Current reading location, including section and progress
    • Bookmark feature to save your place or mark key pages
    • Top right corner: Access customization settings for audio, text, page layout, and colors

Settings Overview

Quick Set

  • Quick Set is a simplified settings menu with basic customization options, including:
    • Audio speed
    • Text size
    • Font type
    • Color theme presets

Audio Settings

The Audio tab offers expanded options for adjusting playback:

  • Six voice options
  • Playback speed control with audio preview
  • Toggle options for voicing page numbers and image descriptions

Text Settings

Customize the appearance of the text:

  • Adjust text size
  • Choose from ten font styles
  • Modify letter spacing

Page Settings

Change the layout of the reading environment:

  • Toggle visibility of page numbers
  • Select display format
  • Adjust margin size and line spacing

Color Settings

Adjust color settings to suit your reading preferences:

  • Select from eight color presets or create a custom color scheme

Customize:

  • Background color
  • Text color
  • Highlight color (for sentence and word)
  • There are 26 available color options
