Biography
Dr. Fredrick Brown is Associate Director of Bands on the University of Northern 黑料社区 School of Music faculty. His responsibilities include conducting the Symphonic Band, teaching courses in the instrumental music education cohort, supervising student teachers, and leading our Pride of the Rockies Marching Band & Pep Band. Prior to his arrival to UNC, he was Director of Bands at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, where he conducted the marching band, basketball band, symphonic winds, chamber ensembles, and jazz band. In addition to his conducting responsibilities, he actively engages secondary school band programs throughout the state as a guest clinician. Dr. Brown鈥檚 research interest includes music beyond the traditional wind ensemble and engages with the promotion and performance of chamber music. He also involves theories of value and philosophies of experience to engage with the understanding of music and culture.
Dr. Brown earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting from Arizona State University with Prof. Gary W. Hill. He completed his Master of Music in Wind Conducting with Dr. Albert T. Nguyen and served as Interim Director of Athletic Bands at The University of Memphis. He was conductor of The Mighty Sound of the South鈥� Marching Band, the nationally ranked 鈥淢ighty Sound鈥� Pep Band, and the concert band. Before his time at Memphis, Dr. Brown received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Henderson State University, taught within the Stuttgart Public Schools in Arkansas.
