Biography

Kamel N. Haddad, Ph.D. is a senior academic leader with more than three decades of experience in higher education, spanning faculty life, academic administration, and executive leadership at comprehensive public universities. He currently serves as Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences at the University of Northern ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, where he leads the institution’s largest college, overseeing ten academic units, multiple doctoral programs, and a complex portfolio of budgets, personnel, and strategic initiatives. His career reflects a deep commitment to public higher education, student success, faculty excellence, and mission-driven stewardship.Ìý

As dean, Dr. Haddad has guided significant organizational and academic transformation. Under his leadership, the college launched new high-demand programs in health sciences, computer science, statistics, and public health; expanded industry-aligned certificates and microcredentials; and established the university’s first coop program to strengthen career pathways for students. He has emphasized data-informed decision-making, transparent governance, and thoughtful resource alignment, particularly during periods of fiscal constraint.Ìý

Dr. Haddad prioritizes equity, morale, and clear communication which has contributed to improved student outcomes, stronger enrollment positioning, and a renewed sense of shared purpose across the college.ÌýÌý

Previously, Dr. Haddad served as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice Provost for Planning and Academic Resources at California State University San Marcos, where he oversaw academic affairs during a presidential transition and managed divisional budgets exceeding $70 million. In these roles, he led campus-wide initiatives in enrollment planning, academic advising reform, online education readiness, space and academic master planning, and graduation-rate improvement. His work was marked by an ability to bring faculty, staff, and administrators together around shared goals, balancing operational rigor with care for institutional culture and people.ÌýÌý

A tenured professor of mathematics by training, Dr. Haddad began his career at California State University Bakersfield, where he held roles as department chair and associate dean and led major externally funded initiatives in STEM education, teacher preparation, and student success. A Fulbright Senior Scholar and recipient of multiple teaching and leadership awards, he remains grounded in the values of mentorship, access, and inclusive excellence. Across institutions and roles, Dr. Haddad is widely respected for his integrity, collaborative leadership style, and steady focus on helping universities fulfill their promise to students, communities, and the public good.Ìý

Dr. Haddad holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, where he was recognized for excellence in teaching, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology. A tenured professor of mathematics and Fulbright Senior Scholar, his scholarly and professional work spans research, teaching, and large-scale academic innovation. Over the course of his career, he has served as principal investigator or lead administrator on more than $20 million in external grants, including a $6 million U.S. Department of Education grant to launch engineering programs, a $2.5 million state innovation grant supporting student success initiatives, multiple National Science Foundation awards advancing STEM education and teacher preparation, and federally funded research focused on equity and family engagement in STEM fields. Ìý
