K-12 School Data Collection and Coaching

We help schools make sense of data—so every student has the chance to learn, move, and thrive.

Data-informed decision-making is essential for strengthening education. The UNC Active Schools Institute partners with schools to collect, analyze, and interpret physical education and physical activity data that can shape instruction and programming. Using valid and reliable tools, we assess policies, practices, and student behaviors through methods such as activity monitoring, systematic observation, surveys, and interviews. Our goal is to transform complex data into user-friendly reports, infographics, and resources that empower schools to make evidence-based choices and sustain active learning environments.

The UNC Active Schools Institute developed the CSPAP Policies and Practices Questionnaire (CSPAP-Q; Stoepker et al., 2021) to help schools assess their current approaches to physical activity. Freely available on the Active Schools website, this tool serves as a practical needs assessment to identify strengths and gaps in existing practices.

Research into Practice

At the UNC Active Schools Institute, we don’t just promote ideas—we promote what evidence shows truly works in schools. Our team regularly reviews the research literature to identify best practices and translate them into practical tools for educators and school leaders. We publish systematic reviews in academic journals and create user-friendly resources such as issue briefs, guidance documents, and advocacy tools. Together, these syntheses and supports make it easier for schools to implement proven strategies that promote active learning and student success.

Community Engagement

The UNC Active Schools Institute values connections and partnerships with the local community. We strive to stay engaged by hosting professional networking events, serving on local school wellness committees, and hosting special opportunities for youth in the larger Greeley community.

Professional Networking Events

One of our favorite ways to engage with local school professionals is through Tap Talks. These informal events bring together educators, administrators, and other stakeholders passionate about school health to share ideas and 鈥渢alk shop鈥 in a relaxed, community setting. Stay tuned for our next Tap Talk somewhere in Northern 黑料社区!

Wellness Committee Service

School wellness committees guide district-wide efforts to promote healthy eating and physical activity. Our team has supported numerous committees across Northern 黑料社区, bringing expertise in physical activity and access to UNC Active Schools Institute resources. By partnering with schools, we help extend, expand, and enhance opportunities for students to be active before, during, and after the school day.
