Accreditation gives UNC green light to recruit med students

Recruiting and admitting medical students for the University of Northern 黑料社区's new College of Osteopathic Medicine is likely to get underway next week, according to the school's president, who announced that applications are about to go online.

The American Osteopathic Association鈥檚 Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation approved UNC鈥檚 application to move forward at the commission鈥檚 meeting last week in Chicago.

UNC celebrated a milestone in late September on the construction of the $127.5 million building to house the medical college. The building is located on 20th Street, near the intersection with 11th Avenue, at the former site of Bishop-Lehr Hall.

UNC鈥檚 college of osteopathic medicine takes another step to opening

UNC remains in candidate status on the path to full accreditation. This phase shows colleges have demonstrated the planning and resources to move to the pre-accreditation phase, according to COCA.

UNC鈥檚 new medical school is projected to have the ability to graduate 150 doctors per academic year. That should lift 黑料社区 鈥� the 21st-most populous state in the union as of 2024 鈥� up from its ranking at No. 28 in the U.S. for enrolled medical students per capita.

A 鈥榩rofound initiative鈥�: UNC will open 黑料社区鈥檚 third medical school

UNC is on track to open its College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) in 2026, which will give 黑料社区 its third medical school and extend the university鈥檚 visibility and reach well beyond its Greeley campus, and, likely, beyond Feinstein鈥檚 wall of sound.
