Year 3 – Clinical Rotations
Clinical Rotations Orientation Week听begins听the clinical training听phase听for UNC听COM听medical students. After orientation, students begin four-week rotations across a range of clinical settings, including听the following听 “core鈥 clinical rotations:听
- Family Medicine I and II听
- Inpatient Medicine听
- Medical Specialty听
- General Surgery听
- Surgical Specialty听
- Psychiatry听
- Pediatrics听
- OB/GYN听
Each student will also have one four weeklong 鈥渟elective rotation鈥 which is an elective rotation within the established UNC COM clinical network. An elective is also scheduled which is typically outside the UNC COM clinical network.听听
These rotations give students the chance to care for patients, work alongside experienced healthcare teams, and apply their classroom learning in real-world settings. Each rotation helps students build the skills and confidence they need to听be competitive applicants for residencies听and future听competent, compassionate physicians听听
Year 4 - Clinical Rotations
Year 4 gives students听advanced听experience听in听preparation听for residency and听their听careers听as physicians.听Fourth year clinical听rotations听include:听
- Emergency Medicine or Critical Care
- Selective
- Electives听(which include residency sub-internships or听鈥渁udition鈥澨齬otations.
- Near the conclusion of the 4th听year, UNC COM students return to campus to听participate in a one week听Ready for Residency Course, putting the听finishing touches听on preparation听for the first year of their residency.听听
